Las Vegas holds the honor of being the number one tradeshow destination for 21 years running, welcoming more than 5 million delegates and over 22,000 individual meetings and conventions in 2014. In an effort to highlight the variety of events that take place in the destination, Las Vegas created a new video series called “Unconventional.”
When most people think “convention,” they think business suits and formal presentations. What isn’t brought up is the wider world of conventions and the niche industries and organizations that hold events in Las Vegas. It’s within these unique events that Las Vegas is able to create a narrative around attendees whose stories help develop compelling, dynamic content. Las Vegas gives the audience a glimpse into some of the most intriguing conventions, the fascinating people who attend them and the culture that surrounds them.
The “Unconventional” content series mirrors the adult freedom brand that Las Vegas owns like no other destination. With digital content that captures a glimpse inside a few of the sub-cultures that consider Las Vegas their convention headquarters, the series spotlights each unique world and its devotees. The videos reinforce Las Vegas as a place where adults can be whoever they want, and do whatever they desire, completely judgment-free — on the one extreme, roller derby queens thrashing each other for the victory, and on the other, a diverse community of gamers interacting within their unique network with players from across the globe.
“Unconventional” aims to welcome conventions of all shapes, sizes and interests to Las Vegas. By hosting conventions that highlight unique industries, the destination continues to redefine the perception and standards of traditional conventions.
The video series will live on the Las Vegas YouTube page and will be promoted to visitors through Facebook and Twitter. A third video in the series is expected to be released in the spring.
